Project Goal

Archiving a website meant buying a Mac app. That has been the state of things for years, and it rules out everyone on Windows, everyone on Linux, and anyone who just needs one backup and does not want to install software for it.

The goal was to move the whole job into the browser: paste a URL, watch it work, download a ZIP that actually opens offline.

Project Result

A working product at websitesucker.com. It pulls HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images and fonts, renders JavaScript-built pages through headless Chromium so single-page apps come down intact, and preserves embedded YouTube, Vimeo, Maps and Spotify rather than leaving holes. Progress streams back over a WebSocket while it runs.

Analysing a site is free and you only pay to download—$1.99 once, or $5.99 a month for unlimited. Pricing a tool honestly is part of the design.
